She liked to run and to play and to sniff
And was given to our kids as a very special gift
She was born in November of 2008
We came back from an Xmas trip and she was waiting in a crate
Ryan and Alicia were thrilled to see the puppy inside
Took her out of the crate to take some small strides
She took a few steps to her new family found
Settled right down and plopped on the ground
Mom picked her out and dad gave her name
Gone and never forgotten and the love is the same
She will dance in our hearts now and forever
And was the glue that held us closely together
Car rides and walks and anything would do
Just as long as she was together with you
She liked Kramer and Boston and Oscar and Spike
And to hang out with them, especially outside
She liked to bug Nanny and Nono for treats
And fruits of all kinds were her favorite to eat
She went camping and fishing and everywhere else too
And couldn’t resist snacking a Kleenex or two
Today is the day we have to say goodbye
And let the love shine through as the tears fall aside
A lifetime of love is what she truly gave
But today it is us who need to be brave
The hardest thing to do is to say our goodbyes
We are all here for her, the love flowing inside
She came into this world and to us four
And was loyal and loving down to her core
She was our constant companion throughout all the years
And the thoughts of her now leave us in tears
Dogs only live a relatively short life
Because they are already full of goodness and light
They connect to your soul like nothing else can
We remember the love from the moment it began
They only stay around you until the time
That the love is transferred and then bid goodbye
For us, we never wanted it to end
For her, she gave everything that she had to spend
She gave of herself until there was no more
If only she could have stayed like the puppy before
That’s just not how it works, our hearts knew inside
As now, a safe passage is ours to provide
We had to say goodbye to her today
We were all together and she just couldn’t stay
It was very tough to watch you slowly go
But we were all with you, letting the love flow
We spent time with you this morning before
You were so excited when we walked through the door
We gave you pets and kisses and love
And saw that what was once easy is now so tough
Gave you treats and held you so close
And still there was even cold on your nose
We didn’t want to see you in pain
And gave constant love again and again
We took you to the vet just down the road
And talked to the doctor and so were told
That they would make you relaxed and safe
And brought out to us where we await
You were wrapped in a blanket safe and warm
And we stayed right with you with love to adorn
The time had now come for us to set you free
And we poured out our love and then let you be
We wanted to keep you forever and ever
But it’s the love and the memories that we will treasure forever
